"We match up the hidden labor market, with the hidden job market," Brown said.  "It's like being a matchmaker."

The first step is for participants to "build their house," Brown said.  That includes a self assessment of the tools they already possess.  "Then they build a life plan.  It's the same as building a business plan.  Without a good plan, you are not going to be successful."

Other aspects of the program are establishing good work ethics, preparing resumes and learning interviewing techniques to clearly communicate potential worth to an employer.

The "28 Days to Employment" system is offered in two formats, the self-study version and the monitored class version.  Interested participants must call to register.  Twenty-eight days is the average time it takes participants who complete the six week program to find jobs.

It didn't take Lake that long, though.  Before he completed the program, he already had 10 job interviews lined up.

"C.J. was able to tell me to relook at what makes me me.  No fluff and puff.  Cut to the bone," said Lake, now a special education teacher working with at-risk youths at an alternative school.  "Without this program, you don't know how to rebuild yourself and be honest with yourself.  It's very worthwhile."
