In March of this year, North Side will expand its employment services with the addition of an innovative job readiness and placement system, developed by PeoplePower, LLC. The program has been featured in the Milwaukee Journal Faces of Hope column.
North Side recently received a grant from The Dewan Foundation to help expand its employment program! In addition to its Pathways supportive employment program, NSHSS will add 28 Days to Employment as a new program component. The innovative program is rapidly growing as a state-of-the art tool for helping those hard to employ (i.e. with felony records, sparodic work history, lack of skills, etc.) to find not just a “job”, but land a career based on their gifts and talents. Twenty-Eight Days is the brainchild of C. J. Brown, a US veteran who was once homeless, “Careers are found in “the hidden” job market”, Brown shared at a meeting with North Side’s Executive Director, Geri Palmer and Employment Services and Senior Case Manager, Nanette Tucker.
The program runs for six-weeks, two hours per week, and is slated to begin in March. The weekly sessions includes working from a manual and homework. Ms Tucker is working on drafting the criteria for entry. Program participants for the first session will include men living in North Side’s housing programs and several slots are available for women in the community.
Veterans Employment Voucher System
PeoplePower, LLC and the Evanston Vet Center have partnered to develop a Voucher System for Veterans struggling to find employment. The vouchers will be supported by local business leaders and qualified Veterans will be able to obtain a voucher at the Vet Center which will allow them to attend the PeoplePower 28 Days to Employment classes that will assist them in finding a career and not just a job.
EVANSTON, Illinois - PeoplePower, LLC., an international leader in the workforce readiness, research, development and training services industry, is a proud strategic partner of the Mayor of Evanson, Illinois Summer Youth Employment Program. The youth of Evanston are working on conducting a job fair to be held on April 17th and we are asking business leaders to join us in this effort to make it a successful event for the local youth. This event will be attended by members of Congress and other Illinois elected officials and there will be press coverage. Your participation would be an excellent way to show these young people and the public that business leaders care about the future of our youth.
